Greensburg, the county seat of Westmoreland County since 1785, was named for Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. The city grew from a small cluster of buildings along a wagon trail that connected Philadelphia to Pittsburgh to a major center of business and culture in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

However, just a short drive west is Pittsburgh. Here you will find major league sports teams in state of the art facilities, A-list music concerts, exceptional theater performances, cultural districts bursting with international flavors, vibrant nightlife, world-renowned museums ranging from local history to classical art, and a stunning skyline.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to “get away” from the hustle and bustle of a large metropolis, another short trip (this time to the east) will bring you into the heart of the Laurel Highlands. Here you can lose yourself camping in the lush forests of Laurel Hill State Park, hike up rocky mountain trails of the Laurel Ridge, and take an invigorating dip in icy cool mountain streams at Linn Run. Outdoor activities such as white water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and snowmobiling are available for the thrill-seeker in all of us.
Students will benefit from close relationships with the Allegheny Health Network (Forbes Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital) in Pittsburgh, Conemaugh Health System in Johnstown, Somerset Hospital in Somerset, and Fayette Regional Health System (Uniontown Hospital) in Uniontown all of which provide valuable clinical training for students during their third and fourth years.
