The SGA offers emergency scholarships to students in need.
Emergency Academic Scholarship Guidelines
Purpose
This scholarship is designed to provide immediate financial relief for students facing urgent academic-related expenses that could impact their education. The funds must be used strictly for academic purposes. There will be a maximum of four to six awards for the year.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Enrollment Status: Must be a currently enrolled student at LECOM – SH.
2. Emergency Need: Must demonstrate an immediate, unforeseen financial need related to academics or travel.
3. Eligible Expenses: Scholarship funds may only be used for:
Required course materials (ACLS/BLS if other days outside LECOM designation dates needed)
Exam fees or certifications (If conflict with LECOM, and must purchase on own)
Emergency transportation (e.g., funerals, hospitalizations, etc.)
4. Ineligible Expenses: The scholarship cannot be used for:
• Non-academic personal expenses (e.g., ID card replacement, rent, food, entertainment)
• Late fees, penalties, or prior debts
• Non-required materials or subscriptions
Application Process – Submit to President and Treasurer who will create an anonymous application and write check.
1. Complete an Application Form: Include student information including name and address on their own behalf.
2. Provide a Statement of Need: A short explanation (200 words max) of why the funds are necessary using only your LECOM ID number.
3. Attach Supporting Documents: (e.g., receipts, invoices, course syllabus, or official requirement documentation).
4. Submission Deadline: Rolling Basis.
5. Review Process: Applications will be reviewed within 30 days, and students will be notified via email.
Award Distribution
• Six – $100-$150 will be disbursed directly to students approved.
